MXR JHM3 Jimi Hendrix 70th Anniversary Univibe
The univibe was one of the earliest outboard modulation effects and was originally developed in the 60′s by Shin-ei. The idea was to use lightbulbs and photocells to emulate the effect of a rotating speaker for electric organs. The result was similar, but like the pulsing light bulb at the heart of the effect, the sound the Univibe created was alive and organic. It wasn’t long before Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower immortalized the ghostly, incandescent throbbing of the big black box on Band of Gypsys and Bridge of Sighs, sending subsequent generations of guitar slingers chasing smoke on the hunt for rare originals.
